Our Story

We are the Thompson's and I (Tara) am "MAMA" and the maker behind MamaMade Skincare. What started as an attempt to try my hand at making tallow, quickly became a love for the process. As a mom, I have always put my family first, especially when it comes to choosing food and products that are organic, chemical free and whole in nature.

The journey started while pregnant with our 1st son back in 2007. I came to learn all about what I needed to stay away from and not ingest or put on my skin while pregnant. That's when the lightbulb went off. So I shouldn't eat lunchmeat with nitrates when I'm pregnant, but it's ok to eat when I'm not pregnant? That makes NO sense. I shouldn't eat food with MSG in it? I slowly started ditching the laundry detergent that caused skin rashes on the boys, the dryer sheets, the counter spray loaded with chemicals, the sunscreen, the soaps.... The rabbit hole started as a new mom and I've been in it for the past 17 years. When you KNOW better, you GROW better!

My health goal for my boys is to educate, surround and saturate them with the knowledge of what it truly means to be "healthy" so that they know how to make healthy choices when it comes to ingredients and products in an oversaturated and un-healthy world. You can spend all of your time eating right and exercising, but if you are continually saturating your skin with harmful hormone disrupting products, it's counterproductive. Eczema, dry skin, rashes, acne - they are all reactions to something either being put on your skin or in your body. We must learn to heal ourselves.

I'm a label reader. My husband is now as well and we are teaching the boys (we have 3) as much as possible. The boys call our kitchen an "ingredient kitchen". It's tough at times with 3 hungry teenage boys. The "better for you" food is not always the best tasting and a lot of brand testing occurs. Brands and marketing matter. Companies know this and spend millions on attempting to attract children to their harmful products. This is why reading labels is SO important. If you can learn about harmful ingredients to watch out for and teach your kids, it will be one of THE most rewarding things you can do for your family.  We aren't perfect and still love sugar, eating out and being human...but at least we know we are instilling the right knowledge in our children to be able to make healthy choices. That's the best we can do.

Most all of our food comes from local farms. We make nearly all of the products used around our house or at least buy them from others who make them (countertop cleaner, laundry detergent, lotion, sunshield, deodorant, toothpaste...).

We hope you love MamaMade and follow us as we grow!

We are a family of small business owners and we REFUSE to give our hard earned money to companies who refuse to put our health and safety first. Thank you for being here and entrusting our family to put your family first when it comes to your skin!
